AMH Laptop Sleeve - May Finish

At one of our recent guild meetings, my friend Rachel commented, "Why are you carrying Vera? You should be carrying 'Jess!'" I laughed and agreed. So, here's my first foray into quilted accessories (well, the first since the wedding).

I am happy to report that I've finished my May goal before May is half over. I guess the point is to have a kick in the butt, right? Right. So, I've finished my laptop sleeve and I can't even DESCRIBE how much I love it. Well, I'll try. This is a blog, after all.

The back

I bought some Anna Maria Horner Field Study linen at Pink Castle Fabrics, which carries just about everything I'm looking for/dreaming after fabric-wise. I mentioned when I received this fabric that it's right up my alley - as friends and family will think, it's very "Jess." Whimsical and a whole lotta purple.

I quilted one extra feather into each side just as an extra for the eye :)

I tend to delve into quilting and sewing projects with a deep breath and nary a look back. Most of the time this is a good thing, though sometimes it involves extra time taken (ripping out stitches, for example), or wasted fabric. This time I got pretty lucky. I loosely followed this laptop sleeve tutorial - basically I made two quilt sandwiches (one was 4 inches longer than the other). In the end, I had to trim off a good two and a half inches of width to make it fit better, but that only involved a bit of unpicking after I sewed some of the binding on.

I quilted them in orange metallic thread - which shines so pretty :) - and sewed binding around all the raw edges. Also, for the first time, I successfully operated the button application on my Janome, and also the button sewing foot :) I was SO excited. All I had to do was press the pedal! Even the husband thought it was really cool!

Purple buttons, OF COURSE (from my small but mighty button stash)

I lined the sleeve with two pretty AMH prints, and bound it in AMH scraps. What can I say -  I'm obsessed! Also, it's deep enough to hold my laptop cord - so, stylish AND functional. Check and check.

I'll be headed off to school tomorrow with my brand new laptop sleeve, and I'm IN LOVE with it! I had such a creative and productive weekend. Isn't it great when those happen?
