Project Color My Apartment: Sewing Corner, Part 1

I'm no interior designer, nor do I pretend to be an expert on color (I'm just a humble quilter and fabric lover), but Project Color My Apartment is my attempt to brighten up my all-white apartment without painting the walls. Periodically, I post suggestions for adding color to a relatively color-less place (white IS a color, after all), and include updates about my attempts to lessen my frustrations!

The first part that I've tackled in my new humble abode is the sewing corner... of course! Now, our new blinds are up, and things are looking great :)

Before:

After:

First, I took an old bulletin board I had, tore off the old fashioned purple fabric my mom had glued on it when I was little (it was used in my room for years).

Mom spray painted the sides in white, and I hot glued strips of Art Gallery Bespoken (Millefiori in Dark) onto the insides (I hemmed the fabric first). An easy way to brighten up a bulletin board :) Now, I can finally display all of my postcards and tokens from quilting friends! I'm seriously obsessed with how easy it was to change this bulletin board and make it mine again.

Next to the bulletin board, you'll notice a stunning mini quilt called "Perspective," which was made by Heidi of Fabric Mutt for the Modernista Homemade Swap (P.S. Round three starts in early January!). She knew I loved rainbows and AMH, and she has no idea how much I love the archetextural fabric in the background. It's so... historical to me (perfect for a history teacher) :). This mini quilt is finally being displayed where it belongs!

Finally, my "Always" embroidery hoop hangs proudly underneath (yes, I know it's not center, there is a method to my madness, I promise). I love it!

There is more to be done. I plan on making a little bunting after the holidays to fill the little space of difference between the height of the bulletin board and my wall quilt. I have places for below the quilt and the bulletin board, but you will just have to wait and see! Finally, I'm still searching for the perfect fabric for curtains. I was especially looking during the Black Friweekday sales, but to no avail. I'm still thinking green - but it's also been hard to compromise with the hubby :)

I hope this inspires someone to go remake a bulletin board, or just to decorate a wall! I'm definitely going to need a couple more (small) mini quilts to fill in the sewing corner... okay, I'll let it be for now and update you soon!

(Sneak peek of work on my next room!)

P.S. Check back tomorrow night for the winner of the Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway! My friend Colleen is getting a charm pack of my favorite fabrics for linking up to the end of Sewing Confrontations - great job, Colleen, and thanks!

  1. Yeah me and yeah you! Love what you did in the corner! The bulletin board is perfect. I actually have a natrual wood framed cork board my dad made me when I was little to put my inspirations in my sewing room. For the space underneath how about a small shelf with jars for sorting buttons by color. Or its a great place for a thread holder. Cant wait to see the whole sneak peek!

  2. I, too, have a mini hanging in my sewing space but it's over my computer desk. My bulletin board (cork and whiteboard) is on the opposite wall.
