Supernova Progress - 2 months gone

Participating in the Supernova Friendship Swap, so far, has been just as fun as it is challenging. I just realized I never blogged about the amazing blocks Karin sent me in June and July (for the swap, we make 2 identical Supernova blocks at a time - one stays and one goes to our partner). So, I'm playing catch up. I just LOVE using blue quilter's linen! It's more exciting than a neutral color. :D I do love my neutral colors (I've been itching to try some chambray as a background) but it's fun to do something different.

What started as a limited "I love the things you make" Instagram friendship has evolved since the swap started! I guess that's the point, right? In June, we had to send along a list of 25 things our partner didn't know about us (this took a long time to come up with, which was a bit unexpected!). Karin sent along this ADORABLE match book which contained her list, and I found out that she can't sleep with socks on (me neither, Karin! ;) ). She blogged about her June block here.

In July, we had to discuss what we would do if there were no limitations of any kind (kids, bills, etc.). Karin said that she would love to just make! I hear you, Karin!

So far, the blocks have been challenging for me. My cutting/piecing accuracy has improved by light years in the last year and a half, but I am still mastering a good scant quarter inch seam. I love to sew fast and I think that's part of my problem. :) Anyway, I've only been about 1/8th of an inch off on the blocks, and I can see an immense improvement in everything in my second blocks. Just keeping it real here - all is not always perfect in quilty blogland. ;)

Also, just piecing one of these blocks is challenging because there are *so* many pieces and steps (how do you people make king-sized Swoon quilts?). Once I had the cutting done for both blocks, I created an assembly line to finish them together. I'll try to remember to take a picture when I make my August blocks, because it worked well. :)

I've been busy working on a secret project that sucks up all my free time, but I'm going to plan my August blocks soon!

  3. The blocks are so pretty, and I love the concept of making a quilt with a friend and the little extra activities to get to know each other better! I will have to sign up to do one of these types of things sometime!

  4. I love this idea. Wish I had the motivation right now to try to do something like this myself.

  5. These are looking so great together! Sarah and I are sending ours off in bulk to reduce postage at the end, so I'm thinking of just making the rest of mine all at once. I'm finding the month between each one is making it hard to remember how to piece them and getting the seams right!!
