*Sewing With Certainty (SWC) Goal Linkup here!*
A dauntingly, seemingly complicated project has been languishing in a plastic bin, unfinished, for almost a year and a half now: the quilt that my mom and I started making together. She bought the fabric (Ty Pennington's Impressions - which I LOVE!), the pattern (Chasing Cottons - Curlicue Crush, which I LOVE EVEN MORE), and we started cutting the fabric together. You can see that we started in June 2012! *embarrassed*
I will write more about what happened after that when I share the finished quilt... because I'm finally picking it up again. It sat and sat mostly because I was officially freaked out by sewing the curves. I decided to try again last night, and it's working... maybe because a) I have a better machine now (WITH a quarter inch foot!), and b) I'm overall a much better piecer than I was a year ago...
to...
I'm just going slow and guiding the curve as I sew... no pins... and using tweezers to help with the stubborn part at the end. Oh, and a knee lift helps A LOT! :D My method is based on my friend Leanne's @ she can quilt.
So, I'm feeling reinvigorated. And excited. And I'm ENJOYING sewing curves all of a sudden. What is this madness? I can't wait to give this to mom for her birthday! Yes, she reads my blog and yes, she will see this, and yes, she knows it's her b-day present this year, and yes, Mom, I'm actually doing it! <3
P.S. Don't forget to come back tomorrow for the first topic linky for SWC - Choosing Fabrics!
Good luck with the curves! Those are something that I am still terrified of.

ReplyDeleteLove the colors for that pattern.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous design! It will be fun to watch this one come together :-)
ReplyDeletelove to see how this quilt turns out.
ReplyDeleteI just started sewing curves, and it's surprisingly fun. I'd been avoiding it like the plague, but it's really not that difficult once you get started. Good luck getting this quilt done for your mom's birthday.
ReplyDeleteYay! Glad to see you are enjoying the curves now. I love that pattern and it will look so wonderful when finished, I'm sure. Yes, that video by Leanne is what convinced me to give the curves a chance, too!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you two chose for that pattern! I saw Leanne's video a few weeks back - boy does she make it look easy, but I'm still not convinced I'd have such luck : P
ReplyDeleteoh curves - I had one go at them and it was a disaster! I must find some courage to start again - you are inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern, too! But I've always been too afraid to give it ago in case I ruin it; I've never sewn a curve in my life!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration. Curves are on my "want to learn" list for 2014!
ReplyDeleteHad to buy the pattern as soon as I saw it thanks for the link.
