I wanted to draw everyone's attention to something I stumbled upon: "100 wishes and prayers for our baby girl." Kendra and her husband are adopting a baby girl from China, and she would like quilters from all over the world to send her a 5" by 5" charm square of fabric.
From the Flickr group: "To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It is a custom to invite 100 people to contribute a single square patch of cloth. The 100 patches are sewn together into a quilt that contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation."
This is something so beautiful and precious to do. She would also like you to include a card with a swatch of the fabric from the same fabric as the charm square, so that her future daughter can look up who sent her that charm square in a scrapbook. For more information and pictures of those squares and messages already sent, visit the Flickr group.
I can't wait to go through my stash this weekend and find the perfect piece of fabric for this lucky and loved little girl!
