Charm Pack Placemat Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop

I know - another sew along! I love them. I couldn't resist signing up to help with Fat Quarter Shop's celebration of one of their newest video tutorials, Beginner Charm Pack Placemat. Small projects, just like the pincushion I made for last week, are a fantastic opportunity to practice quilting, especially on a domestic machine! That's my favorite part!

I used several different colors of Blueberry Park fabric by Karen Lewis Textiles for Robert Kaufman. This fabric is like a dream to me because it's so versatile and features modern, small prints. I really wanted to use that lime green (aptly named Limelight) to make the whole thing pop!

I took the opportunity to practice pebbles with designs inside them - and it was a fun, creative exercise. I sketched out a bunch of ideas and referenced the sheet whenever I got stuck. Part of the trick is spreading them out so it looks random. Jessica Levitt (@jtlevitt) was my main inspiration - she is amazing at quilting them on her longarm! Using Aurifil thread #2600 (dove gray) made the pebbles blend on the front and pop on the back (Cloud9 Cirrus Solid Lagoon fabric):

Yay quilting!!

I can easily see how this project can multiply. Like, I could have made an entire set, and my kitchen table would be so grateful.

As the title states, this project is suitable for beginners and up. It's a great project to teach someone about four patches, focus fabric, and borders. Sherri of A Quilting Life and Kimberly of Fat Quarter Shop made everything crystal clear to understand. Check out the video below:
