Announcing: Selvage Along!

Do you save your selvages? If not, you might want to start, because Renee @ Quilts of a Feather (@quiltsnfeathers on IG) and myself are hosting a summer Selvage Along!

From next Monday until mid-September, we'll be posting tutorials and ideas for you to make projects with your selvages. Plus, we have a bunch of bloggy friends who will be sharing tutorials and selvage projects. You'll be able to link up your own projects, too! This is all very laid back, and just for fun. Join us - grab a button and spread the news!

P.S. For reference, I cut my selvages at either 1.75" or 2" from the far edge of the fabric/white space. This is considered a LOT of fabric for a selvage, but I find them much more versatile this way. Try it!

  1. Yay!! I cut mine so there is 1" fabric to show off in addition to the white selvage part.

  2. Wonderful! I've been saving my selvages for quite a whille and wondering what I'll ever do with them. Can't wait to get started. Thanks!

  5. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am. I save all my pretty selvages but rarely use them for anything.

  11. Oh yes - I cut fat selvedges too. Though I've not actually done much with them..yet!

  12. I cut mine at 7/8" and wouldn't dream of throwing them away, my students know I save them and are always bringing me bags stuffed full of their selvedges. Such a shame that more people don't save/use them so this will be a great way of changing that. Looking forward to seeing what everyone shares and I'll have to come up with a project too and join in the fun, let me know if you need more people for tutes - Chris :D

  13. I have always wondered just how wide to cut them! :)

  14. I cut them at 1" past the white, unless it's a really great print, then as wide as I can get away with, usually 2" Unfortunately, my organization skills are lacking -- all my selvages are scattered randomly throughout my crafty spaces, which currently encompasses the entire apartment. :D Some are in a pretty vase, some are in a pretty basket, and I found some mixed in with my husband's sock drawer just last week. Can I blame the cat? :D Really excited to see what you and Renee have cooked up!

  15. Yay, this will be fun. I don't know if I'll be playing along (if anything it will be another mini), but I'm looking forward to seeing what people make and gathering ideas. I generally cut my selvage about 3/4" from where the selvage meets the print. You should have Jess Levitt do a tutorial on how she made her "MAKE" mini from mod ;)

  16. This sounds fun, and I've got a drawer full of generously cut -up to 2" past the white strings. BUT - I've got so many WIP's I would be willing to donate them to someone with perhaps an end result charity quilt??? Let me know Jess - I'll pay the postage :)
