ReplyDeleteI know that they will be sending requests for reviews, but I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed your webinar. You had a very good presentation. Even though I didn't need the basic information, I still enjoyed that part too and agree that it was a necessary part of your presentation. I am so glad that life didn't get in my way of watching it live. I actually woke up yesterday with thoughts of what I wanted to put on my word quilt and this was very timely. You are a very good instructor. Thank you for your time, skill, and commitment to this technique.

ReplyDeleteI've been working on a quilt with Aurifil 12 wt words, so it was fun to view your presentation on the subject. You might throw your link for 5 Tips for Working with 40 and 28 wt threads in this post (http://www.quiltyhabit.com/2016/11/5-tips-for-working-with-40-and-28.html). I found it very helpful to take a look at. With the thicker thread, I adjusted the tension and needle size. I also matched the color of the 12 wt top thread to the 50 wt bobbin thread. I had some difficulty with nests on the back, which was helped greatly by holding onto my top and bobbin threads really well after pulling the bobbin thread up to begin sewing. I tie off my threads, but to avoid having an ugly, noticeable thread wad on the back, I refrained from popping the knot into the batting, and instead pulled only the thread tails through before clipping. A really busy backing would have hidden some less glamorous moments too, had I gone that route. Originally, I had used a matching 50 wt, which made my words completely invisible. I assure you, they sure aren't subtle now!
