I say this^^^ only because I still have enough voile to (hopefully) make a baby quilt top. Score!
Last summer I
You guys know Anna Maria Horner is my quilting idol, right?? And yes, I *did* fussy cut that rose!
Also, during this process (which took most of the week so far, due to constantly adjusting and then petting said voile in appreciation), I realized I just didn't care if *all* my points match up (they don't). This quilt is for me and my family and oh well! Take that to any quilt police who might be patrolling!
Three questions:
1) How should I quilt it? I really think straight lines... but any suggestions for something creative (but simple since voile is slippery)? I'm definitely going to use my walking foot.
2) Any batting suggestions? Like, should I use my regular Hobbs Heirloom, or does it matter?
3) Anyone tried binding a quilt in voile? Any feedback?

Getting there...
Maybe not. :) My sister knew she was in trouble when I arrived with a quilt top in tow.

oh it's beautiful! And I really like your change-up with the divider strips - very striking! Sorry, though, no real experience with voile....
ReplyDeleteMy experience with voile is solely the infinity scarves you inspired me to make earlier this year...so I have no idea on quilting it. From what I've heard it can be tricky! I hope it goes smoothly for you! I wish I could touch it, I bet it's so light and soft!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any experience with voile. I am hoping to learn from you. But if you do decide to hand quilt go with bamboo batting instead of flannel. I have hand quilted with both and bamboo batting is a lot easier to hand quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to have a quilt made from voile, both pieced front and back. I was planning on using my regular warm and white cotton so it would be light and thin while still cozy. I know people use voile for binding but I would use regular quilting cotton. Binding gets used more harshly than the rest of the quilt and I'd hate to have a hole worn and have to repair it.
ReplyDeleteOh this is beautiful. I can almost feel it through my computer screen. I've been dreaming of making one of these. (Cut to Pieces used a light weight down comforter as batting for hers.) I would think less is more with quilting this on beauty.
ReplyDeleteThe AMH prints are all so lovely and beautiful, that it would seem that you wouldn't need but just enough quilting to hold it together. Maybe a large grid, or diagonal lines?
ReplyDeleteI've never worked with voile before so I'm really interested to see how everyone answers your questions. I love AMH fabrics too!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh it looks so soft. Looks like the bundle is sold out now. Did you cave? ;) I have some Liberty fabric that I plan on using with Art Gallery and have an AGF backing. I want to use Bamboo batting in it to make it super duper drapey and soft.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I've never worked with voile, so I can't help as to the binding question. As for the quilting, straight lines are always a fabulous choice! And I like the idea of a bamboo batting as well.
